Shop Critic: Superb dark garnet color with a few reflections of dark orange. Intense nose of ripe fruits, spices, and roasted coffee. The palate is rounded and full, with silky matured tannins and hints of vanilla. This wine is rich and powerful with layers of tannins.
My Review: BLACK OLIVES! BLACK OLIVES! BLACK OLIVES!! is exactly what this wine smelled like. It took me a while to figure out what it was but as soon as I realized what the aroma was it was hard for me to pick out anything else except for black olives. The nose was so powerful I could almost taste the black olives. I did detect some dark fruits as well, a little bit of blackberries and black currants. The mouthfeel was surprisingly silky yet quite tannic and dry. There were hints of black olive flavor throughout with some hints of vanilla as well. A very interesting, round-bodied wine. Definitely some points for originality on this one.
I did not drink this wine with any food pairings.
